🎶 Anna Vilenskaya – "Cosmic Romanticism: How Kubrick, Tarkovsky, and Nolan Scored the Silence"
Anna Vilenskaya is a musicologist, lecturer, and researcher of contemporary music. She has transformed the way we talk about music by making it more visual, simple, emotional, and practically useful for the listener.
📽 Lecture topic: Cosmic Romanticism: How Kubrick, Tarkovsky, and Nolan Scored the Silence
How do you compose music for a film about space? Should you use the sound of space blasters? Ominous avant-garde? Silence? Strangely enough, Kubrick, Tarkovsky, and Nolan chose a different approach. The music in “2001: A Space Odyssey”, “Solaris”, and “Interstellar” has one surprising thing in common: the organ!
In this lecture, we will discuss the brilliant compositional choices that shaped our perception of how space sounds and explore how these three directors use music to send "greetings" to each other.
Together, we will take a deep dive into the music of three iconic space films and see how it enhances their storytelling.
